Ben and Sara are excited to announce Ambrosia Energy, a new company on a mission to deploy the fastest and lowest-cost, continuous, renewable energy in the US.
Energy demand is real and growing at an extraordinary pace, driven by AI compute, industrial expansion, and the broader electrification of the economy. Yet the path from "we need power" to "power on" remains painfully slow, often 5 to 10 years for a new grid interconnected power plant. We believe access to affordable, sustainable, reliable power is foundational to human progress and quality of life, and solving this problem is one of the highest impact things we can work on.
Our background
Together with a small focused team, we previously built Swarm, a constellation of hundreds of tiny satellites for IoT connectivity, which we sold to SpaceX in 2021. At SpaceX, we started and led the development of Starlink Mobile, bringing direct-to-phone connectivity to market in partnership with global carriers. After nearly a decade building two satellite constellations, designing and optimizing new hardware in space, coordinating launches, and navigating complex regulatory landscapes, we're bringing that same ambition, engineering rigor, and systems-thinking back down to Earth.
What we're building
Ambrosia Energy develops, manufactures, and operates solar + battery power plants, selling power directly to customers with a flexible commercial model including off-grid, grid connected, behind-the-meter, or bridge solution to solve for time to power. We work with our customers to establish the optimal paradigm for their power needs and partner with them and local utilities as needed. We are fully vertically integrated — controlling land acquisition, permitting, procurement, engineering, battery manufacturing, construction, operations, and power sales. This alignment of incentives across the entire stack is uncommon in the energy industry, and we believe it is a significant advantage.
What we believe: A power plant should be deliverable in 12 months, not a decade. We've designed every part of our process for speed, from site selection optimized for fast permitting, to installation procedures timed to the second, to creative financing structures that enable rapid progress. We believe that if a customer can consume power in a sunny location with enough land, Ambrosia Energy will always be the first obvious choice due to speed, price, and sustainability.
We've developed an innovative battery system that makes 24-hour storage economically viable, something most systems have not been able to do. This enables 99.9% availability for off-grid, 24/7 operations. We use the same proven Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells and solar panels as conventional projects, and achieve the same industry-wide lifetime (20 years) and safety standards. Ambrosia Energy is the 100% renewable option for compute workloads today, rather than years from now. Our power plants are modular, easily deployable, and infinitely scalable: we adapt to rapidly evolving customer requirements as we are built to be nimble and quick.
One key insight: solar panel and battery costs have fallen so dramatically that raw hardware is now only 10–20% of total system cost. We're redesigning everything else until that ratio flips to 90%. Fewer moving parts, factory assembly, faster builds, lower total cost.
Early progress
As engineers, we wanted to validate the system first. We moved quickly — purchased land, obtained permits, installed our first system, and have been piloting in West Texas since early January 2026. Our pilot now demonstrates 100% reliability and we're continuing to stress-test and iterate.
We're now planning projects with a handful of customers: 20–30 MW next, scaling to 100s of MW, and ultimately gigawatt-scale. Our focus today is on powering compute infrastructure, but we see the opportunity extending well beyond, into broader energy markets and applications we're only beginning to explore. Reliable, low-cost renewable power is foundational and just the beginning.
Need Power Now?
Our offering: power delivered in 12 months at $100/MWh, 100% renewable, at 99.9% reliability.
If you need 10-100 MW of continuous renewable power in the next 12 months, or are planning larger capacity in the future, we'd love to talk. We can partner with customers in two ways: on our land where customers co-locate, or we can build on customer land, ideal for existing or expanding sites and can be built alongside existing gas-powered sites.
Join us
We're a small, technical, execution-focused team looking for exceptional people who have built and scaled hardware and software systems in the real world. We operate by three principles: hardware first, customer obsession, and designing for gigawatt scale from day one. If you're energized by this mission, we'd love to hear from you. We have a lab in Redwood City, California, and are building a factory in Austin, Texas. We are hiring engineering, manufacturing, and operations talent in both locations.
We're proud to have the support of DFJ Growth, and grateful for the opportunity to work on something this important. Excited for launch. 🚀 See DFJ's blog post.
